Career Education Complex Programming & SD Assistance San Jose City College
Suniya 360* recently completed the programming and schematic design development for a 120,000 GSF complex housing numerous Career Technical Education programs at San Jose City College. The complex consisted of a new 4-story building and the modernization of an existing Building. Programs housed within are HVAC and Facilities Maintenance, Iron Workers, Laser Technology, Machine Technology, Maker Lab, Emergency Medical Services, Medical Assisting, Simulation Lab, Business, Accounting, Real Estate, Computer Applications, Computer Information Systems, Workforce Development, Campus Technology Support Services, and classrooms, computer labs and social spaces to serve the entire campus.

Suniya led the majority of the stakeholder meetings to confirm program needs, determine room layout characteristics, and required adjacencies. Suniya collaborated with the project designers to develop and refine the schematic design floor plans, with an eye to increase building efficiency where possible. Suniya also led collaborative planning, technology and furniture discussions on designing spaces for better utilization and flexibility, leading the college to opt for a laptop model to equip all computer labs, with extra mobile racks and mobile TV monitors capable of serving rooms typically set up for classroom modalities. Furniture selected was tested to be configured for traditional front facing teaching pedagogies, as well as work group clusters for all classrooms and computer labs.
